Learning through play, the BYG way!

Are you ready?
Ready to trade the four walls of a classroom (or office) for the boundary-free outdoors of Hong Kong?
At The Backyard Gang, we believe kids spend way too much time indoors on screens, so since 2017, we have been on a mission to bring back the magic of a good old-fashioned childhood—providing a safe, structured, and incredibly fun environment where kids learn through play! Whether it is building dens, playing in the rain, find cool creatures or hiking in the mountains- opportunity to learn (and play!) is all around us.
We are expanding our amazing team and are looking for a passionate, reliable, and energetic Outdoor Creative Educators and Teachers to help us deliver our unique outdoor programmes.
Position:
Outdoor Early Years Teacher / Creative Educator
The Role:
Delivering the BYG curriculum while being immersed in nature, being an awesome role model and safeguarding the kids.
Our success has been built by awesome people, so for the right person roles can be flexible with the opportunity to take on secondary roles to explore talents and interests:
- Educational curriculum development and session planning.
- Administration and operations.
- Marketing and social media.
- Event management.
- Business development.
Location:
Our HQ is based in Wong Chuk Hang, and our programmes run throughout Hong Kong's country parks and beaches.
So what will you be doing?
As a part of the Team, you will be the guide and guardian for our "Explorers" and "Gang" members.
- Facilitate learning through play: Deliver our engaging curriculum based on Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire. You'll lead hands-on sessions—think hiking, building campfires, engineering bamboo marble runs, and sailing handmade boats.
- Ensure Safety & Well-being: Maintain a highly secure environment while actively encouraging kids to take healthy, supervised risks that build their confidence.
- Embrace the Elements: We go out come rain or shine! You won't just be watching; you’ll be getting your hands dirty, jumping in muddy puddles, and laughing a lot.
- Adapt & Overcome: Confidently manage dynamic situations. Whether it’s a sudden rainstorm or a change in a 5-year-old's attention span, you know how to adjust the plan and keep the experience positive.
Who We Are Looking For:
- The Big Kid at Heart: You love the outdoors, have boundless energy, and possess a genuine passion for working with children.
- Experienced & Patient: You have a background in teaching, child development, outdoor leadership, childcare, or coaching, coupled with patience, empathy, and the ability to foster curiosity.
- The Adaptable Explorer: You are reliable, highly adaptable, and thrive in the unpredictable (but fun!) environment of the outdoors. Weather, wildlife, and kids' interests change by the minute, and you know how to pivot and embrace the chaos!
- A True Team Player: You possess great communication skills and love collaborating with a diverse, tight-knit team of international educators.
- Qualified: First Aid / CPR certification is required (or a willingness to obtain it immediately).
What We Offer:
- The ultimate "anti-desk" job where your office is the great outdoors of Hong Kong and no two days are the same.
- A supportive, creative, and fun company culture where your new ideas for activities are actively encouraged.
- Access to our library of over 400 tried-and-tested sessions and ongoing support from our senior leaders.
- The incredibly rewarding experience of helping kids build resilience, learn vital life skills, build confidence, and create lifelong childhood memories.
- We offer a competitive salary and HK Work visas can be provided for the right candidate.
- Our priority is to find full-time team members, however part-time options are available.
